The Bahá’í Faith teaches that children and youth are the most precious thing a community can posses and their spiritual education and training is of the utmost importance and essential to the future of society. We believe that each child is endowed with spiritual qualities such as kindness, honesty, patience, and love and our role is to help bring out those qualities and use them to make the world a better place.
Parents are the first educators of children and they should be supported and given the tools to encourage and bring out the best in their children and to create unified and strong families. The Bahá’í Writings offer much guidance and advice in the area of spiritual education.
To assist families, Bahá’ís all over the world offer moral education classes to children in their local community. The classes include use of storytelling, art, music, games, and study of the Holy Writings.
We invite your children to join our classes – please contact your local community to find out details.
We also welcome you to start your own class in your neighborhood. We have study classes to prepare you and give you the tools you need to work with your own children or start your own class.
Some Bahá’í Writings about children
Every child is potentially the light of the world…
Every child must be trained in the things of the spirit, so that he may embody all the virtues and become a source of glory to the Cause of God…
Prayers for Children
O Thou kind Lord! These lovely children are the handiwork of the fingers of Thy might and the wondrous signs of Thy greatness. O God! Protect these children, graciously assist them to be educated and enable them to render service to the world of humanity. O God! These children are pearls, cause them to be nurtured within the shell of Thy loving-kindness. Thou art the Bountiful, the All-Loving.
-'Abdu'l-Bahá
O God! Educate these children. These children are the plants of Thine orchard, the flowers of Thy meadow, the roses of Thy garden. Let Thy rain fall upon them; let the Sun of Reality shine upon them with Thy love. Let Thy breeze refresh them in order that they may be trained, grow and develop, and appear in the utmost beauty. Thou art the Giver. Thou art the Compassionate.
